Documentary “The Devil is Busy” Featuring Abortion Provider Feminist Center Earns Academy Award Nomination
Atlanta, Georgia– The documentary short “the Devil is Busy,” featuring abortion provider Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation (Feminist Center) and directed by Christalynn Hampton and Geeta Gandbhir, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary Short film category. The film revolves around the everyday work of Feminist Center security lead Tracii as she keeps abortion patients and clinic staff safe. It highlights the daily barriers that staff and patients face when seeking care, including aggressive anti-abortion protestors and Georgia’s 6-week abortion ban.
“I am truly excited and in awe of how the documentary has been received and how it has sparked conversations around abortion and reproductive healthcare. We deserve better than what we’re getting under Georgia’s 6-week ban, and this documentary shows you the reasons why. I encourage viewers to take the next step after watching the film: share The Devil is Busy with someone you love to continue the conversation about abortion access and support local abortion providers like Feminist Center.”

The 2026 nomination coincides with Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation’s 50th year of service, and the documentary serves as a stark reminder of why Feminist Center was founded. Kwajelyn Jackson, Executive Director, says:
“Our founding mothers established Feminist Center out of a need for safe, nonjudgmental, and compassionate care, informed by the people getting that care. The Devil is Busy illustrates that, even fifty years later, this need remains present as ever. Abortion providers around us are closing. Out of fear, providers are discontinuing other essential services like gender affirming care. Especially today, Feminist Center is needed. And we will meet that need by unapologetically offering care that empowers everyday people, not politicians, to make their own decisions.”

The Academy Awards will be held on March 15, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. Soledad O’Brien Productions produced “The Devil is Busy,” and the film is now streaming on HBO.
###
Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation provides reproductive health care including abortion, and engages in movement building with people across all axes of oppression so that we have the rights, resources, and respect to make empowered, informed decisions about our own bodies and health. We envision compassionate, judgment-free healthcare, abortion access, and bodily autonomy for all who need it, intentionally centering Black people, Indigenous people, people of color, and the TGNC community. We imagine clinics, legislation, and communities where
decisions about our bodies, pregnancy, sexuality, family, and safety are honored, protected, and treated with dignity.
