Abortion Clinic in Atlanta

Feminist Women’s Health Center is an abortion clinic in Atlanta. We provide safe, affordable, and compassionate abortion and gynecological care to all who need it without judgment.

The abortion clinic opened in Atlanta in 1976 as a part of a Federation of Feminist Women’s Health Centers. It was founded with the mission of providing safe, supportive and non-judgmental abortion and gynecological care services, consciousness raising meetings, and self-help workshops.

Abortion is a common, safe, and legal way to end a pregnancy. If you are pregnant and are considering an abortion – we are here to help. If you are undecided, we provide resources and counseling and will support whatever decision you make.

There are two types of abortion procedures: surgical and medication abortion. Both procedures are safe and effective.

We offer surgical abortion services to patients in their first or second trimester of pregnancy (up to 21 weeks from last menstrual period). In the first trimester, our physicians perform a vacuum aspiration procedure, which is the most common first trimester abortion procedure. During the second trimester, our physicians use the Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) technique, which is the most common procedure. For more information about surgical abortion procedures at our Atlanta clinic, visit this page.

A medication abortion, commonly known as “abortion by pill,” is available to patients in the first trimester of their pregnancy up to 11 weeks (about 2 and a half months). Patients take a pill called Mifeprex under doctor supervision at our Atlanta clinic. Mifeprex works by blocking progesterone, a naturally occurring hormone necessary for pregnancy to continue.

Six to 48 hours (about 2 days) later, at home, the patient will take another medication, misoprostol, a prostaglandin that causes uterine contractions and the pregnancy will be expelled. They will experience cramping and bleeding through this time.

Here is what you can expect during an abortion appointment at our Atlanta clinic:

  • Prep – To prep, do not eat or drink anything after midnight before the day of your procedure.
  • Ultrasound – You will undergo an ultrasound exam to confirm the length of pregnancy.
  • Lab work – We will perform routine blood tests before the procedure.
  • A private counseling session – At Feminist Center, we believe in empowering our patients to make the decision that is best for them. For that reason, we provide private counseling sessions to educate patients on their options and provide support. We will never perform an abortion on a patient who has not made a decision of their own free will or who is not ready to make a decision. If a pregnant person is firm in their decision, then the counselor reviews informed consent information with the patient, answers questions about the procedure, explores birth control options, if needed, and discusses after-care instructions.

In addition to providing abortion care at our Atlanta clinic, we also provide annual exams (pap smear), birth control options, emergency contraception, HIV testing & counseling, STI testing & treatment, pregnancy testing and trans-affirmative healthcare.

Our Atlanta abortion clinic is located at 1924 Cliff Valley Way NE. We are right off the I-85 access road, and we are open Monday through Saturday.
