Join the Latina Leadership Committee (LLC)
The Latina Leadership Committee (LLC) seeks
to ensure the human rights of all Latinas by advocating for and
raising the voices of unheard Latinas in the reproductive justice
movement. In this way, Latinas are working to ensure access to the
full range of reproductive health services for Latinas in Georgia.
The LLC is composed of Latina leaders and
activists, who have come together to promote a message of empowerment,
advocacy, and civic/organizational participation and leadership.
All of our work is a collaboration of diversity and passion, coming
together in the hopes of affecting a million more.
The Project is committed to developing
a group of well-informed Latina leaders, activists, and volunteers.
They will educate and organize in their communities, connect and
participate with our state’s reproductive justice movement,
and ultimately, influence reproductive justice policy and politics
in our state.
The goals of the Latina Leadership Committee
are:
- To increase public awareness within Latino
communities about reproductive health and rights issues;
- To advocate for Latinas’ concerns to
be at the forefront of the reproductive health and justice movement;
- To educate and activate other Latinas to
get involved in the Lifting Latina Voices Initiative (LLVI) and
in their own communities to improve access to reproductive health;
and
- To inform and provide input to FWHC’s
services, education, and advocacy programming to the Latino community
and our Young Women’s Leadership Project (YWLP), including
the LLVI.
What do we expect?
- That you are committed to the issues described
in this Invitation;
- That you desire to work closely with the
Latina Leaders Community Organizer in providing input and assistance
on projects and/or events that reflect the needs of the Latina
community;
- Willingness to participate in outreach, workshops,
conferences, volunteer activities, or public speaking;
- Attend monthly meetings via phone or in person
as much as possible
- Help identify ways to improve recruitment
and involvement of Latinas and other allies in LLVI and the YWLP.
What can you expect?
- To meet, work, and learn from other women
in the LLVI who care about the Latino community as much as you
do;
- The opportunity to build skills through unique
workshops, volunteer projects, networking, and community outreach
events that will be of benefit to you throughout your life;
- To make a difference;
- To share your experiences, perspectives,
and best practices;
- To have a space where you are welcome, respected,
and valued;
- To grow as a leader and influence reproductive
justice policy and politics in our state.

The need for reproductive justice
for Latinas has never been greater.
Latinas continue to face serious
health care access barriers and consequently poorer health
outcomes, especially in the area of reproductive health. By
all measures, Latinas are faring far worse than others in
numerous reproductive health areas, including breast/cervical
cancer, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and teen
pregnancy. |
